I own a Rebel XT and have an opportunity to pick up a 220EX Speedlite for $50.00- loike new condition. I've read mostly positive re: the 220EX, but I've also read some negative buzz that "you're almost better off w/ the XT's built in flash"I realize that reviews will be different dependent upon folks expectations, knowledge and whatnot. Given that, not having the budget for the higher end Speedlite models(e.g. the 430), is the 220 a good addition? Note, I'm a burdgeoning photographer, probably wouldnt need the bells and whistles, just looking for an expansion of the XT's flash range. Appreciate anyone giving a quick blurb on the value of the 220EX. Thnx

You can read just about anything about cameras and still only have opinion.Do some tests yourself.Shoot using the onboard flash out to say 80 feet in increments of ten feet with the ISO set at 100. Shoot a few portraits using the onboard flash as well.Then put the 220EX on your camera and repeat the tests.You will find that the 220EX reaches farther into the black oblivion and reduces the chance of redeye.
